Dr. Steven Wengel is an Omaha native and a graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine. He did his psychiatry residency and geriatric psychiatry fellowship in the Creighton-Nebraska combined residency program and joined the UNMC faculty in 1991.

Dr. Wengel currently serves as Professor and Chair of the UNMC Department of Psychiatry. His clinical and research interests include diagnosis and treatment of dementia, mood disorders, and other psychiatric problems affecting older adults, as well as the psychiatric complications of Parkinson’s disease and the pathophysiology and management of delirium.

He enjoys teaching psychiatric principles to a wide variety of trainees, and has previously served as the Director of Medical Student Education. His primary focus for the Department of Psychiatry is to promote education as an important area of scholarship for the Department.
