Dr. Carl Camras
Glaucoma
Dr. Carl CamrasDr. Carl Camras is professor and chairman of the department of ophthalmology at UNMC and the Director of the Glaucoma Service. The world-renowned research team of the UNMC Ophthalmology-Gifford Research Program is focusing research on the prevention and treatment of glaucoma. This team includes the primary researchers responsible for the development of the glaucoma drug latanoprost (Xalatan), which has become one of the world's leading treatments for lowering eye pressure in people with glaucoma.

Dr. Camras is from Chicago. He received a BA from Yale University in 1975, and obtained his MD from Columbia University in 1979. After finishing his residency at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute in 1983, Dr. Camras went on to complete a fellowship in glaucoma at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York in 1984. He joined UNMC in 1991.

Dr. Camras has more than 150 publications in the field of glaucoma, with special emphasis on glaucoma pharmacology and aqueous humor dynamics. Dr. Camras has received many awards for his teaching and research, and has been an honored guest lecturer in 25 states and 15 countries. Dr. Camras is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
