Jose Villegas, MSHP Center for Reducing Health Disparities Academic Background and Work Experience My name is José Villegas and I am a medical doctor from Xalapa, Veracruz Mexico. I am a currently a candidate for a Ph.D. in Public Health with specialization in Community Health Promotion and Education at Walden University. I graduated from the medical school of Universidad Veracruzana. When I completed the medical course work, practicum and thesis I obtained my medical license. I then began working at the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) in both rural and urban settings areas for a period of 3 years as a physician. In 1999, I decided to study English at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, located in Omaha, Nebraska. After completing my course work at ILUNO Program, I applied and was accepted into the Masters in Health Promotion with an emphasis in Human Resources Management program at Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) located in Omaha, Nebraska. I completed the course work and thesis required for graduation from NMC in 2002. My first employment following graduation from NMC was at Children's Hospital also in Omaha, Nebraska as a medical Spanish interpreter and translator. Currently, I am working as of Clinical Study Specialist/Promotor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center under the Center for Reducing Health Disparities-Research.
