South Omaha Community Care Council

History

Following the success of the North Omaha Community Care Council, UNMC and The Nebraska Medical Center approached leaders in South Omaha about forming a community care council to address health care needs unique to South Omaha.  The SOCCC elects officers and committee chairs. The SOCCC consists of more than 60 members including a number of community-based organizations.

 

The UNMC Community Health Center serves the health care needs in the South Omaha Community and is a training site for the medical, nursing and allied health students.



Mission

To provide a strategic infrastructure to enhance collaboration, communication, leadership, and services for the empowerment and well-being of the community

 

Vision

The South Omaha Community Care Council will be the leading community-based network that builds capacity and addresses the needs of an ever-changing diverse society.

 

Goals

  1. Increase access to healthcare
  2. Reduce health disparities amongst communities of color
  3. Increase positive alternatives for youth
  4. Increase funding resources
  5. Increase access to housing opportunities
  6. Increase education and services promoting healthy lifestyles
