Toby Schonfeld, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Health Care Ethics in the Health Promotion, Social and Behavioral Health Sciences Department in the College of Public Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy with a concentration in medical ethics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has been at UNMC since August 2001.

Dr. Schonfeld teaches in the Integrated Clinical Experience (ICE) curriculum for first and second year medical students and co-directs the fourth year elective on spirituality and health care. She also teaches Health Care Ethics to students in the School of Allied Health Professions. She has developed web courses in health care ethics and in critical thinking. Dr. Schonfeld is active nationally in the Society of Jewish Ethics, American Society of Bioethics and Humanities, and the International Network on Feminist Approaches to Bioethics. Her research interests fall into four categories: women's issues, research ethics, Jewish bioethics, and ethics education.
