Concentration Areas


There are three areas of specialization. Each of the following areas of specialization require 12 credit hours:

  1. Community Health Education

    Community Health Education concentration area prepares students for implementing effective interventions directly with clients, determining a community's health needs, promoting healthy lifestyles, and carrying out health surveys.

    12 credit hours from these courses:

    HED 8270 Interventions in Health Education 3 cr hrs
    HED 8400 Health Promotion Program Planning 3 cr hrs
    HED 8750 Health Education: Instrumentation and Evaluation 3 cr hrs
    HED 8956 Public Health Leadership & Advocacy 3 cr hrs

  3. Public Health Administration

    Public Health Administration concentration area prepares students for an administrative, managerial or supervisory role, with emphasis on community organizing, policy development, planning, and program evaluation.

    12 credit hours from these courses:

    PA 8410 Public Personnel Management 3 cr hrs

  5. Biostatistics/Epidemiology

    The Biostatistics/Epidemiology concentration focuses on quantitative skills utilized in public health practice and applied research. The target audience is public health professionals who obtain, analyze, and interpret data. The course work and applications focus on the distribution, dynamics, and etiology of disease in populations; health promotion; disease prevention; and evaluation of public health policy and programs.
