Approval for admission to the MD/MPH program will be based upon a portfolio of information submitted
by applicants. Admission decisions will be made on the strength of the entire portfolio, not on any
single indicator, allowing consideration of a diverse group of students. The decision to admit an
applicant is based on a review of the entire portfolio of application information, including the GPA.
A successful applicant will demonstrate promise of success in academic and professional activities
and competence in biological science, behavioral and social sciences, and quantitative methods. An
applicant's portfolio should include the following:

Step 3:
Evidence of an earned baccalaureate or graduate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution
of higher education
Medical Student transcripts are included on AMCAS – No Need to submit additional transcripts
Step 4:
Two public health focused letters of recommendation from academic or professional references
Step 5:
Official GRE scores within the last five years are required of all Biostatistics/Epidemiology
concentration applicants and international applicants. Students applying to the MD/MPH degree
program may use the MCAT as an alternative to the GRE. Only MCAT scores for exams administered
from January 2005 through September 2007 are applicable for admission for the 2008 entering class.
Arrangements to take the Graduate Record Examination may be made through the Educational Testing
Service in Princeton, New Jersey. A waiver may be requested by domestic students who have
successfully completed a prior graduate degree.
The GRE/MCAT scores will be assessed in combination with the other admission materials including
prior coursework and work experience.
Step 6:
Applicants whose primary language is not English or whose undergraduate degree is from a college
or university from a non-English speaking country must present official scores on the Test of English
as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A score of at least 550 on the paper-based TOEFL or 213 on the
computer-based TOEFL is required.

Step 7:
A resume reflecting one or more years of work/volunteer history related to health and/or human services
Step 8:
A personal statement (limit 1 page) describing the applicant’s:
Interest in and potential for contributing to the field of public health
Career objectives
Self-assessment of the applicant's computer, quantitative analysis and personal skills and
general preparation for succeeding in a program of graduate studies in public health.

applicant believes the information will assist in documenting their capacity/potential to successfully
