Academic Background and Work Experience
Wayne R. Houston is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and a graduate of Omaha North High School. Wayne attended Texas Tech University, California State University Long Beach and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has received Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcasting/Telecommunications from California State University Long Beach and Masters of Arts degree in Public Administration from University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Wayne has actively served in the field of post-secondary education for over twenty-five years in various capacities such as: Instructor for the Black Studies Department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Program Director for Educational Talent Search at Creighton University, and the Director of Minority Student Services presently known as the Office of Multicultural Affairs for UNO. Presently, Wayne is responsible for developing and facilitating community health outreach activities for the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Currently, Wayne Houston is serving as President of the Black Family Health & Wellness Association Inc. Vice President of the City of Omaha, Human Relations Board, as well as serving on the city’s Civil Rights Board. Wayne has served in the capacity of board member and Fundraising Chair for the Chicano Awareness Center for four years. Wayne has previously served as First Vice President and Community Coordination Committee Chair for the Omaha Branch of the NAACP, and as President of the Nebraska Minority Public Health Association. In addition, Wayne Houston has recently completed his term on the Governor’s Diversity Advisory Cabinet
