He is responsible for the overall operation of the medical physics group, including eight medical physics faculty members, two medical physics residents, and a research post-doc.

The responsibilities of a medical physicist are:

  • Providing clinical service and consultation to hospital physicians, and radiotherapy patients.
  • Conducting medical physics research and development.
  • Participating in the teaching of therapy students and medical physics and radiation oncology residents.
  • Playing significant roles in local, regional, and national medical physics-related committees and organizations.
Education
  • Bachelor's: Physics, University of Science and Technology of China, 1986
  • Master's: Physics, The University of Chicago, 1988
  • PhD: Physics, The University of Chicago, 1992
Research
  • FLASH effect – a phenomenon that when we deliver radiation to cells at a rate more than a thousand times faster than that in conventional radiotherapy, we can reduce the radiation damage to normal cells while maintaining similar cancer cell killing.
  • Image-guided radiotherapy, and improving the accuracy and safety of radiotherapy delivery.
