2/18/2009 - Ainsworth Regional 8th Grade Science Meet
Eighth graders compete at this regional meet with an informative research project they have developed. The goal of the Health/Science Meets is to provide students a fun and educational experience that will inspire them to pursue a career in the health sciences. There are seven other Regional Science Meets. Those students with the top scores will be invited to attend the 2009 UNMC State Science Meet in June on the UNMC campus. The rural regional meets are sponsored by the Area Health Education Centers that serve their community.
2/27 - 2/28/2009 - LEAD Visit to UNMC
The Nebraska LEAD (Leadership Education/Action Development) Program is a statewide agricultural leadership development program designed to increase knowledge and understanding of economics and social changes affecting agriculture and rural areas. The LEAD program is now in its 27th year with its administration at UNL. Each year 30 "Fellows" (Nebraska Residents) are selected to participate. Their in-state seminars require them to visit major colleges and universities around the state. UNMC welcomes them on a Saturday once a year and shows these select few the great things being done at UNMC.

4/08 - 4/09/2009 - Nebraska Public Health Conference: Prevent, Promote, Protect: Working Towards a Healthier Nebraska
To be held at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska. Public health professionals from across Nebraska will come together to work collectively to improve the health of all Nebraskans. The conference targets public health professionals, allied health professionals, mental health practitioners, social workers, environmental health specialists, dietitians, nurses, physicians, health educators and health advocates, and is a collaborative effort of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS), Public Health Association of Nebraska (PHAN), Center for Biopreparedness Education (CBE), Nebraska Minority Public Health Association (NeMPHA), and Creighton University School of Medicine. 5/17 - 5/22/2009 - Cultural Competency Workshop
RHEN is sponsoring the 8th year of its cultural competency program for pre-health professionals in their undergrad years. This program invites twenty students from Nebraska undergraduate schools to attend the week-long program on cultural competency in health care. Students are competitively selected by their institutions to enroll in this one credit workshop developed in conjunction with the Nebraska Minority Public Health Association.

6/8 - 6/12/2009 - Science Teacher Retreat
Retreat participants will spend 3 ½ days on a pre-selected topic. The program includes speakers from related fields followed by research and development time for the teachers to prepare lesson plans to take back to their schools. Podcasts are created to be shared with any teacher who accesses the web-site.
6/15 - 6/18/2009 - SEPA Teacher Workshop
Participants in the SEPA Science Teacher Workshop will experience an intensive 3 ½ day professional development program that addresses science content standards. Specifically, teachers in grades 6-8 will learn concepts related to the understandings and abilities of scientific inquiry and develop methods of science instruction that support teaching inquiry in the middle school science classroom. 6/11 - 6/13/2009 - Seventeenth Annual State Science Meet, Omaha
100 eighth graders with top scores from the Regional Science Meets are invited to attend numerous activities at this event sponsored by UNMC. Those who attend the State Meet learn more about science and health care careers through hands-on activities.

7/16 - 7/17/2009 - Nebraska Geriatric Education Center Annual Conference, Omaha "Frail Elderly and Geriatric Syndromes"
This two-day conference will provide an interdisciplinary approach to geriatrics care for physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, and physical therapy assistants. The conference will be hosted at the DRC on the UNMC Campus in Omaha, but will be available to several locations via video conferencing. Other sites will be announced at a later date. 7/17 - 7/18/2009 - Ag Adventure Tour
The Annual Ag Tour attendees visit agricultural points of interest as they tour across Nebraska. The tour is sponsored by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the LEAD alumni association. 7/27 - 7/29/2009 - SEPA Health and Science Fun Camp
This 2 ½ day camp for middle school students from SEPA partner schools of Native American reservations in Nebraska and South Dakota will focus on the science of sports, exploring health careers, and making nutritious choices.
7/28 - 7/31/2009 - Summer Health Professions Career Workshop
This four-day program is developed by Student Services for juniors and seniors in rural high schools. Eighteen students are selected through recommendations of their high school counselors to attend this program at UNMC. 09/15/2009 - Thirteenth Annual SARH Rural Health Career Day
High school students within 200 miles from Omaha are invited to meet with faculty and students in their health professions and learn about those health professions. Enrollment is limited to 5 students from each high school. About 250 students are anticipated to attend this program.

RHOP students enrolled in pre-allied health, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy and pre-dentistry programs from Chadron State College and Wayne State College visit the campus to learn about UNMC. Dental and Dental Hygiene students go to Lincoln to visit the College of Dentistry. A dinner is held for the students to meet faculty and RHOP students at UNMC.
