Day 1 June 13 OR August 1
Mainly a Middle School-High School Workshop
Morning Session 8:30 AM – 12:00 Noon Guided by a certifiedDinah Ziketrainer, participants will build interactive 3-D Notebook Foldables® using basic classroom materials and depart with mini-composition books that are sure to engage even the most reluctant learners. This is a hands-on, minds-on session informed by research. Marzano, Pickering and Pollock (2001) identified nine instructional strategies most likely to improve student achievement. All nine are embedded in or integral to 3-D graphic organizer tools and instruction. Three-dimensional interactive graphic organizers provide a format for students of all levels to conceptualize, analyze, review, and apply the concepts of a lesson. In this session, learn how to immerse learners in your content area to promote lasting understanding. Teachers will be encouraged to generate ideas for application in their own classroom.
Afternoon Session 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM One on one time with the presenter to answer questions and brainstorm ideas will be offered as well as time for participants to tailor their notebook content to fit their subject matter and the level of their students. In addition, during this work time will be several die cut machines to help with the creation of classroom materials. A brief overview of the dies available and their possible uses in the classroom will be part of this session. Participants should bring with them an open mind and a willingness to think outside the box.
Day 2 June 14 OR August 2
Mainly a K-6 based workshop.
Morning Session 8:30 AM – 12:00 Noon Three-dimensional graphic organizers can help all students master difficult concepts. In this fast-paced, hands-on session, teachers will use simple classroom materials to create manipulatives that will engage students across ability levels and immerse learners in content to promote lasting understanding. Participants will see and hear application for Foldables® across grade levels within the curriculum and will be encouraged to generate ideas for application in their own classroom. Marzano, Pickering & Pollock’s (2001) nine instructional strategies most likely to improve student achievement are addressed in 3-D graphic organizer tools and instruction.
