Every year the Community Bicycle Shop of Omaha hosts an auction to sell off a few of the better bikes that they had donated during the year. The proceeds are used to pay utilities and expenses during the winter.

You can find out more about the Community Bike Shop here:

Anyways, this year I got permission from Dan at Bike Masters to have the Bike Masters Cycling Club adopt one of these bikes. I have volunteered to help get it ready to auction, and I'll be needing help from Team Green to do so. The bike will be auctioned off on August 16th at the Community Bike Shop silent auction. So we have until then to get it whipped into shape. Don't forget to attend the silent auction on August 16th and bid on some of the other stuff that will be up for grabs. Who knows, maybe you'll find a diamond in the rough, or a really nice bike that was fixed up by a really cool cycling club ;-)

I will be including an advertisement card with the bike, when it is auctioned, mentioning all the people and groups that helped get it ready. Bike Masters has agreed to help, and "Trail Performance" in Papillion might be donating a paintjob.

What do I need from you? Below is a list of the items that will be needed to get the bike ready for auction. If you have something you would like to donate, please contact me, or leave it with one of the guys at Bike Masters and let them know it's for the BMCC Adopt a Bike project.

Here is the list of used, but not abused, parts that are needed (red items are the highest priority):

Wheels front and rear (rear spacing is 127.5mm) - this is the most needed item

8 or 9 speed cassette

Skewers (front and back)

8 or 9 speed down-tube shifters (or maybe something else with down-tube stops)

Bar tape

Seat post (27mm I believe)

Seat

pedals (cage pedals or basic clipless)

tubes

rear derailleur (The shimano 105 on it now is pretty abused)

8/9 speed chain

New quill stem (I'm not sure the blue one will go well with a green or black frame)

New compact crankset (low priority, the existing one is just dinged up pretty good)

Somebody to pull and replace the BB before/after painting (I don't have the tools)

Somebody to pull and replace the headset before/after painting (I don't have the tools)

Kickstand (just joking)

Brake lever hoods (the existing ones are cruddy, but might clean up ok)

Brake calipers (if you have something better than 105's)

I think that's about it.

Please email me or call me at 778-0043 weekdays, or 573-8051 evenings and weekends if you have something for the adopt a bike or if you have any questions/suggestions.

Here is the album I started for this project. Please excuse my messy garage.
