Steps in Proposal Submission

Role of PI

  • Contact their departmental administrator's office to discuss budget needs and/or obtain the required UNMC internal forms. These forms are prepared by the PI's department and must accompany every request for external sponsored program support.
  • Notify SPA of plans to submit a proposal, giving SPA
    • the name of the PI
    • the sponsor's name and address
    • the deadline date
  • Obtain the signatures of department chair(s), dean(s) or institute
  • Obtain the appropriate committee approvals for the use of human subjects, research animals and recombinant DNA

Role of SPA

When a proposal is received, SPA staff will:

  • Review the application and internal forms for accuracy and appropriateness
  • Obtain institutional signatures from SPA director
  • Mail a formal letter to the sponsor on behalf of UNMC and package the application for delivery to the sponsor (charges for this service are billed back to the PI's department)
  • Track the application by preparing an official pending file which contains a copy of the application, formal letter, UNMC forms, and agency guidelines
  • Record application information on the SPA database
