Tuesday August 28, 2012 - Largest Classroom


9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Healthcare and Emergency Responder Organization Education through Simulation (HEROES) program 
The HEROES Mobile Simulation Unit will be displayed (www.unmcheroes.org).  This trailer is a portable way to educate healthcare providers and health professions students on emergency preparedness and patient care scenarios.  The unit includes special equipment and manikins that talk, breathe, and have pulses. 

Kids on the Block puppet show
There will be one show every 15 minutes/half hour. Stay tuned for information on performance times.

The Nebraska Regional Poison Center 
We will distribute poison prevention materials: coloring books, brochures and magnets. Pinky the Elephant, mascot of the Poison Center, will be there greeting the children and handing out stickers. At the table there will be pill displays and miniature houses for the students to identify poisons around the house.

The UNMC Youth Learning Center
The UNMC Youth Learning Center will be providing activities regarding the exciting world of health careers.

Wednesday August 29, 2012 - Older Nebraskans

Kearney Nursing Students booth
UNMC College of Nursing students from Kearney will offer free blood pressure screenings. 

Healthy Heartland
Healthy Heartland through UNMC College of Pharmacy offers health screenings for rural Nebraskans. The screenings include bone density, blood pressure, and blood glucose at no charge, as well as cholesterol check for $20.  In addition to the screenings we provide each patient with counseling regarding their results and overall health.

UNMC Eppley Cancer Center Screenings
Free screenings provided by the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center include facial assessments for sun damage with a Dermascan machine and take-home kits for colon cancer screening.

UNMC Telepsychiatry booth
Dr. Carl Greiner and staff will be available to discuss telepsychiatry (Telepsychiatry uses video conferencing to connect doctors and patients.  The patient uses a video conference computer at a local clinic to speak with the physician), provide a continuous slide show, and informational items on behavioral health will be available.
