UNMC's research efforts are focused on seven main areas:
UNMC began the 21st century by taking major steps to become a world-class medical center. Construction was completed in spring 2004 on the $77 million Durham Research Center, a 10-level building that includes:
In April 2006, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved construction of a second "twin tower" next to the Durham Research Center. Groundbreaking is expected in fall 2006.
Opportunities to pursue research projects are available through UNMC's five colleges – Dentistry, Medicine, Graduate Studies, Nursing and Pharmacy – as well as the School of Allied Health Professions. Most programs have an interdisciplinary focus, with cooperation between a variety of departments to provide the most complete educational experience possible.
In addition, summer research programs provide an opportunity for students from UNMC and undergraduates from other campuses to participate in these endeavors.

Lab Information for Student Research
UNMC has many researchers who are funded by the various institutes of the National Institutes of Health. Each spring, the Office of Student Equity and Multicultural Affairs (OSEMA) identifies talented underrepresented minority undergraduates who are interested in a concentrated research learning experience in a laboratory for 12 weeks for two summers.
