How to Apply for Financial Aid
Congratulations on your acceptance to UNMC!
Financing your health profession education may be one of your top concerns. Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, you may have many options: scholarships, grants, work-study and loans.
Our goal? Helping students and their families find the best way to finance a UNMC education. In fact, about 90 percent of our students receive some type of financial aid.
To be eligible for federal student financial aid you must:
- Be accepted as a regular student in a UNMC degree or certificate granting program.
- Be registered for at least half-time (6 hours-undergraduate) each semester during the academic year. Correspondence courses do not count as eligible credit hours for financial aid. Enrollment at institutions other than the University of Nebraska do not count toward enrollment for financial aid at UNMC.
- Students enrolled as degree seeking students through the University of Nebraska Medical Center may be required, by their academic program, to take several classes through the Division of Continuing Education. The cost of CE tuition can be funded in your financial aid package, if you provide documentation of the cost. The credit hours do not count toward enrollment for loan deferments.
- Not be in default on any federal student loans, and not owe repayment on any federal student grants.
- You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
To be considered for financial aid and scholarships at UNMC, you must complete the following:
- If you wish to be considered for UNMC Scholarships for the 2013/2014 academic year, you are required to complete the UNMC Scholarship Application. You will need your UNMC ID and password to log into PeopleSoft to complete the on-line application.
This application serves as your Scholarship Application for the entire length of your UNMC program. The Office of Financial Aid does not award 'renewable' scholarships. Scholarship eligibility is determined each year based on your prior year academic performance, leadership skills, and donor specific criteria (i.e., junior medical student, senior nursing student). If a UNMC Scholarship Application is not on file, your name will be included on scholarship rosters, however, your program may not consider you for scholarshipwithout an application being on file. Additionally, the UNMC Scholarship Application collects donor specific criteria that is not collected on other application materials. -
Due to the change in the Accelerated Nursing Program curriculum, and the way the program's financial aid is structured, you are required to submit the FAFSA for both 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 aid years to UNMC. Also, the Accelerated Nursing Program is an UNDERGRADUATE program. Do not submit your FAFSA as a Graduate/Professional, as it cannot be processed as such.

-
Complete the 2013/2014 FAFSA within 30 days of your acceptance to UNMC. FAFSA data received late may not be considered for need based scholarships and grants. Your Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 financial aid will be based on 2013/2014 FAFSA data.
