In her professional career, Dr. McNamee has been a faculty member and administrator at various institutions of higher education, including Washington University, Illinois Central College, and Mennonite College of Nursing. She was the Assistant Dean at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing from 1989 until August 2001, when she was named Associate Director for Student Recruitment/Director of the Office of Student Equity and Multicultural Affairs.
At UNMC, she has been actively involved in both recruiting minority students and facilitating them in reaching their goal of a health professional career. From 1991-96, she co-directed a U.S. Department of Education funded Summer Research Enrichment Program for undergraduate minority students planning health care careers. More than 50 percent of the students who completed this program have been admitted and graduated from medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and allied health care professional programs - mostly from UNMC.
She is active in the community, currently serving on the Board of Directors of Hope Medical Outreach Coalition, an agency which provides health care services to the homeless, medically underserved and the uninsured, and on the Board of Directors of Project Hope, a church-based food pantry which is the second-largest provider of food to the needy in Omaha.
Dr. McNamee has bachelor's degrees in chemistry, biology, and nursing; a master's degree in education and community health nursing; and a doctoral degree in educational administration. Her research in the area of health care needs of the homeless has been published in professional journals.
In this position she is responsible for developing, planning, and coordinating minority student recruitment and retention activities; providing student support activities which will facilitate student success in programs; and serving as a student advocate within UNMC and the community.
