Nebraska Medical Loan (NML)
Medical, dental and physician assistant students only. Awarded by the Nebraska Rural Health Advisory Commission. Maximum medical and dental student loan is $20,000 annually. Maximum physician assistant student loan is $10,000 annually. This loan requires a service commitment to a rural shortage area in Nebraska. National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC)
The National Health Service Corps is a program of the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration's Bureau of Primary Health Care, which is the focal point for providing primary health care to underserved and vulnerable populations.
The program offers payment of tuition and fees, books, supplies, and equipment for up to four years of education, plus a monthly stipend. All funds are considered taxable by the IRS.
These disciplines/specialties are needed:
- Allopathic and osteopathic physicians in family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology.
- Family nurse practitioners.
- Primary care physician assistants.
- Certified nurse-midwives
For each year of support you receive, you must serve one year in a federally designated health professional shortage area of greatest need. Service commitment is a minimum of two years, and begins upon completion of your residency and/or training.
