Purpose: To provide Nebraska high school students the opportunity to visit the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for an introduction and orientation to a variety of health professions. At the end of the week, students will present their findings to the rest of the group.
Application Process: Students should obtain an application from their school counselor. Students and parents should fill out and sign the application form and then the students should complete their Applicant Essay. Applications should be returned to the UNMC Youth Learning Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center by June 1st.
Selection Process: Students who are entering into their junior year of high school are eligible to apply. Selections will be made on the basis of each student’s demonstrated level of interest, aptitude, and scholastic achievement. Applicants must fill out and return the completed application and essay no later than the first week in June.
A UNMC review committee will select the participants. Students will be notified of the acceptance process by mid June. Up to fourteen students will be selected to participate in the workshop.
Registration Fee: The fee for the UNMC Summer Health Professions Career Workshop is $275. The fee includes: food while on the UNMC Campus (breakfast, lunch, and snacks), chaperone expenses, dorm room expenses, transportation while in Omaha, and learning supplies.
Room and Board: Students will be housed in dormitory rooms at the Scott’s Residence Hall at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and will be supervised by adult chaperones at all times.
Transportation: All necessary transportation will be provided while the participants are in Omaha. The use of personal autos will be strictly prohibited during the workshop.
