Circumcision is the surgical removal of all or part of the loose fold of skin covering the head of the penis.

Post-op instructions

  • Keep the penis clean, by gently washing with warm water and a soft cloth. Air dry.
  • Apply petroleum jelly to the head of the penis.
  • Remove dressings by soaking in warm water just long enough to loosen the dressing.
  • Take sponge baths until the stitches dissolve.

Concerns that are normal:

  • Bloody crust or yellowish coating around the head of the penis
  • Bruising or redness of the head of the penis
  • Incisional bleeding
  • Slight penile swelling?

Concerns that should be addressed at once:

  • Discharge that lasts more than a week
  • Greenish or heavy discharge
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Inability to urinate
  • Significant penile swelling or redness
  • Temperature of 100.2º degrees or greater in children, 101.5º or greater in adults
