The Division of General Surgery is one of nine divisions within the University of Nebraska Medical Center's (UNMC) Department of Surgery and encompasses 3 sections including Gastrointestinal/Minimally Invasive Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Trauma and Critical Care Surgery.

The General Surgery section currently has 16 faculty members and 5 mid-level providers who provide clinical services at The Nebraska Medical Center and The Omaha Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Omaha. The Nebraska Medical Center is one of 3 major health care providers in the Omaha area, serving Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. The main teaching hospital has a capacity of 421 beds. The General Surgery Residency has four categorical positions at each level.
