The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program of the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska offers one to four week externships to qualified dental students. The externship offers the student considering a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The extern will be expected to participate in the operating room and clinical management of patients as well as the scheduled didactic conferences of the residency program. The extern may be involved in clinical patient care that occurs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Creighton University, and the Veterans Administration Hospital of Omaha. The extern may present at one of the OMS conferences during their stay in Omaha, and involvement in research is encouraged. The externship is available throughout the year, however the highest demand occurs during the summer months.
Living arrangements are the responsibility of the extern. Transportation between hospitals and facilities will be provided for the extern, therefore, a car is not required.
