Bowel Prep & Diet Instructions

Patients of Dr. LaGrange, the day before your surgery, please follow the pre-surgical diet and bowel prep instructions detailed below to minimize the amount of stool present in the bowels. 

It is necessary to maintain a clear liquid diet the day prior to your surgery.  Do not eat or drink anything after midnight, unless you have been instructed to take certain medications the morning of surgery.  Some examples of clear liquids include:

  • 7-Up
  • Apple Juice 
  • Broth (chicken or beef)
  • Coffee - with nothing added
  • Jello – with nothing added
  • Popsicles
  • Tea - with nothing added

Begin at 12:00 Noon
Drink two bottles of Magnesium Citrate (this can be purchased-over-the-counter).  Stay close to a bathroom for the remainder of the day.  If vomiting should occur after taking the Magnesium Citrate, please call the office immediately at 402-559-4292.  If after hours, please call 402-559-4000 and have the on-call physician paged.
