Thomas Rosenquist, Ph.D.
Dr. Thomas Rosenquist knows what it takes to build a research program – leadership, advocacy and innovation. Since he took on administrative duties, research activity at UNMC has increased nearly 300 percent. Total research expenditures for 2007-2008 were nearly $104 million.
Dr. Rosenquist was appointed vice chancellor for research in 2002 after serving three years as director of research development and interim in the newly created vice chancellor position. He is responsible for the regulatory oversight of all biomedical research at UNMC. As the principal advocate for research, he represents faculty interests and promotes the highest quality research techniques.
Previously, he was chairman of cell biology and anatomy, during which his department rose to a “Top 25” national ranking in NIH funding, the highest research ranking among UNMC departments.
Dr. Rosenquist is a developmental biologist with special interest in the causes and prevention of congenital heart defects. He is principal investigator of a program project grant from the National Institutes of Health. Since he came to UNMC, Dr. Rosenquist has been awarded nearly $11 million in NIH funding.
