Why are academic health science centers important to Nebraska?
By supporting the mission of education, discovery, and leading-edge care, the Academic Health Sciences Center aims to improve the health of people and the communities across Nebraska and around the world.
We bring together six colleges — medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, public health, allied health professions — working together to give extrodinary care and solve some of today's toughest breakthroughs.
At the University of Nebraska Medical Center, our mission is to lead the world in transforming lives to create a healthy future for all individuals and communities through premier educational programs, innovative research and extraordinary patient care.
Our six-part values—innovation, teamwork, excellence, accountability, courage and healing—is reflective of who we are and why we're here.
Founded: 1881. Originally the Omaha Medical College, the college became affiliated with the University of Nebraska in 1902.
Each of our campus sites is its own community, connected to a greater community. Located in a handful of Nebraska’s landmark hometowns (Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, Norfolk and Scottsbluff-Gering), UNMC’s divisions across the state are bonded through a shared culture – and in real time, by distance-learning technology.
