During the mentoring relationship, both of you need to bring up any concerns about the process or the learning activities as soon as they develop. You should also periodically evaluate the effectiveness of the relationship, and make adjustments as needed before problems become too severe to overcome.

However, if both of you agree your mentoring relationship is not advancing and should be ended, bring it to the attention of the mentoring oversight committee or the mentoring manager of your department so they can assist you transition to a new mentor.

It's also important both of you understand any positive aspects of the relationship that have occurred, even if difficulties were encountered. There will likely be positive things each of you can express to the other regarding appreciation for the time spent.
