The Education Council is a committee consisting of senior education leaders from UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, and the Student Senate.
The group meets monthly to discuss academic-related curricular and other matters and serves in an advisory role to the senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. Education Council minutes are available in DigitalCommons@UNMC.
Some of the Education Council’s key activities include:
- Developing and revising UNMC policies pertaining to education and students (after receiving feedback from the Student Senate Executive Committee and approval from the vice chancellor for academic affairs, the policies are posted on the student policy wiki page)
- Providing a forum for discussion of policies that affect educational units and students (e.g., revised Americans for Disabilities Act, Sexual Harassment/Assault, Responsible Use of Alcohol by students)
- Providing a forum for discussion of campus services that affect students and faculty
- Contributing to the leadership of the North Central – Higher Learning Commission accreditation process (members of the council lead 5 task forces to gather data for the report due in February 2016)
In addition, the council led efforts to establish a uniform academic calendar for the UNMC campus didactic years, and members provided direction for the creation of the UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators.
