Computer Specifications
UNMC College of Allied Health Professions students are responsible for having a desktop, laptop, or tablet (as designated by their program) that meets specified requirements. This device should be equipped with a modern processor, sufficient system memory, anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and sufficient storage. A mobile telephone will not suffice.Activities you may participate in with this device include but are not limited to: viewing online lectures and instructional videos, electronic notetaking, web conferencing, completing e-modules and online instructional activities, proctored and unproctored examinations, and daily computing needs such as email, web searches, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software.
Most programs in UNMC College of Allied Health Professions use ExamSoft for assessments. If your device meets ExamSoft’s minimum requirements, it is believed to be sufficient for other instructional activities you will participate in during your time as a student.
ExamSoft Minimum Requirements
Some additional requirements you should take into account as you assess your technology needs† include:
Students must have access to highspeed internet where they will reside during didactic sessions and clinical rotations (hospital and guest wi-fi may not be sufficient) for required videoconferencing. Zoom minimum bandwidth is 600kbps (up/down) and recommended is 1.5 Mbps (up/down).
Suggested software includes Office 365 and the latest version of Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will provide the most optimal performance, but other web browsers may suffice. Whichever browser you choose, ensure maximum compatibility with Canvas and ExamSoft.
Your device should be enabled with an internal or peripheral webcam that is video and audio enabled for lectures, small group activities, assessments, and some assignments. Consider headphones to reduce feedback and background noise if you’ll complete course activities in a clinical environment, shared residence, or other similar environment.
† Current UNMC students can purchase discounted Microsoft products to comply with requirements.
