PT Ortho Residency

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency is a 13-month, post-professional training program that includes clinical practice, clinical mentoring, observation with orthopedic surgeons, teaching in the area of orthopedics, and opportunities for research and scholarly activity.
The mission of the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is to prepare orthopedic clinical specialists who will:
- deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care,
- participate in clinical, academic, and professional teaching,
- interact with other healthcare professionals to develop effective interprofessional teams,
- provide professional service including outreach to under-served populations,
- participate in scholarly activities to contribute to the physical therapy profession.
General Information:
- 13-month program, starting the first of August each year.
- Residents are UNMC employees and receive benefits per UNMC policies.
- Residents participate in:
- ~30 hours/week of clinical practice at Nebraska Medicine Lauritzen Outpatient Center
- includes ~4 hours/week of mentoring with a clinical specialist
- ~20 hours/week of didactic training, teaching in UNMC’s DPT program, observation with orthopedics physicians and other activities related to our curriculum requirements
- ~30 hours/week of clinical practice at Nebraska Medicine Lauritzen Outpatient Center
Accreditation:
- ABPTRFE has granted the UNMC Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program candidacy status. Candidacy status signifies satisfactory progress toward accreditation. Achieving candidacy status is not an indication that ABPTRFE will grant initial accreditation. Participants who graduate from a program in candidacy status are not deemed to have completed an accredited program.
- UNMC is on track for initial accreditation in Spring 2023.
