November 2018 Dr. Wellsandt was promoted to director of the CMOVA lab. She succeeds Dr. Siu, who stepped down from the director role to serve in the new role of global director of PT education.
October 2018 In collaboration with Dr. Burnfield at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Dr. Huang presented a poster, “Combining Virtual Reality Gaming With Motor-Assisted Elliptical Impacts Children’s Engagement in Exercise" at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine 95th Annual Conference in Dallas. This poster was selected to receive the Measurement in Action Award. Congratulations!
September 2018 We welcomed Mr. Jun Lu, a PT faculty from Nanjing Medical University, who came to our CMOVA lab for a 6-month research training as a visiting scholar.
August 2018 Dr. Chien became an Assistant Professor in our division. Congrats JC!
Dr. Chien attended the Midwest Rural Agricultural Safety & Health Conference in Pella, Iowa and gave an oral presentation on the use of mobile technology to enhance agricultural safety.
November 2017 With the support of University of Nebraska System Science Planning Grant, Dr. Siu developed the Nebraska VR Network for Education and Research (NeVRNER) to foster the use of simulation technology in medical education and research.
October 2017 Drs. Chien and Siu received the Innovation Notification Award from UNMC and UNeMed Corporation. The innovative idea of using smartphone to perform motion capture was featured in the UNeMed 2017 Annual Report.
September 2017 Liz Wellsandt was named American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) “Emerging Leader” of this year. Dr. Wellsandt also received New Investigator Fellowship Training Initiative awarded by The Foundation of Physical Therapy. Read article>>

September 21, 2016 Two current DPT students (Merissa and Trent) were recognized again among the campus as the NASA Nebraska fellows.
September 19, 2016 Dr. Wellsandt was interviewed on the UNMC YouTube channel, ASK UNMC! Video: “How can a PT help me with an injury.”
August 1, 2016 Dr. Jung Hung Chien joined CMOVA as a post-doctoral research associate.
July 18-20, 2016 Dr. Huang attended the International Space Station Research & Development conference in San Diego and presented his ongoing project.
June 1, 2016 Dr. Elizabeth Wellsandt joined CMOVA as an assistant professor. Liz’s research interests include biomechanical and functional outcome analysis in individuals with lower extremity musculoskeletal injuries, with a primary interest in the influence of these factors on the secondary development of osteoarthritis.
Jan 2016 Dr. Siu was invited to give a talk about virtual reality at the Science Café. More than 200 attended this event.
Dec 2015 Dr. Huang graduated from his doctoral program and accepted a new job as the post-doctoral research associate at both the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital and the C-MOVA lab. Congratulations!
July 2015 Summer Research Award – DPT students, Haley Hansen and Caleb Schantz, received 2015 Student Summer Research Awards from the College of Medicine, UNMC.
June 2015 Commercialization Development Award – Dr. Siu was awarded $150,000 from the UNMC Business & Finance and UNeTech to conduct market analysis and prototype improvement with the Omaha-based software company, Aviture, Inc for medical simulation training.
February 2015 Troy Goetsch (DPT student) received the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy Student Award for Geriatric Research.
Feb 2015 Dr. Venema received the 2015 Excellence in Geriatric Research Award at the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy.

April 2014 Award for Researcher of the Year - Dr. Siu was selected as the recipient of the 15th Annual College of Allied Health Professions Award for Excellence in Research. Congratulations!
August 2013 NASA Mini-Grant Award - Dr. Siu was awarded $15,013 from the NASA Nebraska Space Grant to conduct a new study to investigate the optimal training model for skills learning and retention in Telemedicine.
July 2013 Summer Research Award - Four DPT students received 2013 Student Summer Research Awards from the College of Medicine, UNMC: Zachariah Douglas, Candice Chessum, Troy Goetsch, and Megan Bradberry.
May 2013 Honorable and Distinguished Scientist - Dr. Hageman was honored with the Karen Linder Distinguished Professorship for Women's Health and named as one of the UNMC's Distinguished Scientists for 2012. Congratulations!
April 2013 Nebraska Banker Association Research Award - Dr. Siu was awarded $14,330 from the Nebraska Banker Association to acquire a new portable device to analyze balance stability and gait patterns.
