Karen-Stiles---Cropped.jpg Karen Stiles is the State Training Coordinator for the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory and serves as the liaison to over 85 clinical laboratories in the state. She is responsible for continuing education and training for all clinical laboratories across Nebraska in the areas of preparedness, including agents of bioterrorism, chemical terrorism preparedness, packaging and shipping of infectious substances. The CDC’s Laboratory Response Network is used as a guide for training of laboratory personnel. Training is accomplished through onsite training, webinars, STATPack (Secure Image Telecommunication), ™ and phone consultation. This network is invaluable, by keeping communication open and laboratories updated.

She is also active in a number of APHL Collaborative Workgroup’s such as CT Level 3 Handbook Revisions, DOT Category A Special Permit, as well as lead organizer in several HSEEP full-scale exercise on Community Mass Specimen Collection of Physiologically Wounded Patients in a Chemical Terrorism Event.

Karen has worked as a Clinical Microbiologist for over 25 years and has experience in both supervisory and educational positions. She joined the NPHL in February of 2009.
