This course is designed to provide Critical Care Physicians, Anesthesiologists, Surgeons, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Internists, and Cardiologists with basic TTE training, basic TEE training and focused ultrasound. The course includes two on-site visits for 3 days each (6 days total). This course focuses on:
- A Standard TTE and TEE Echocardiography Exam
- Rescue Echocardiography
- Lung ultrasound, DVT evaluation, vascular access and gastric imaging
- Assessment of Ventricular Function
- Identification of Valvular Abnormalities
- Hemodynamic Assessment
- Knobology, Physics and Ultrasound Principles
The first three-day session focuses on transthoracic echocardiography, rescue echo and the use of focused ultrasound such that completion of the first week includes the course content for the Focused Ultrasound Course. The third day of the first session includes transesophageal imaging to round out the education prior to returning to your home institution to utilize these new skills.
In the interim between sessions the studetns are encouraged to perform studies as appropriate for clinical scenarios and save images to be submitted to our secure online portal for review by one of the assigned mentors from the course instructors.
The second three-days session focuses on hemodynamic and evaluation of diastolic function, valvular abnormalities, pericardial tamponade and endocarditis. Following completion of the second session the students will continue to have access the online portal for study upload and review for 6 months from the start of Session One. Students are encouraged to reach out to our group to help their institution’s Information Security officers feel comfortable with the online portal used in our teaching courses.
Physicians will receive 48 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM for the UNMC Echo Course. Students will encouraged to utlize an online platform to submit cases for review using a faculty mentor process. Within this platform students are given access to the web-based teaching files echocardiography studies can be reviewed and interpreted at your own pace and feedback given on your interpretation. A certificate of course completion will be awarded once course work is completed. Additional certificate of completion will be given when the online case submission portion is complete. Completion of this activity is being certified under the AMA Guidelines for New Procedures and Skills.
