Simulation Courses

The UNMC Department of Anesthesiology Medical Simulation Lab has made gaining ASA Simulation Education Network Endorsement a top priority so we may serve as a MOCA testing site in the near future. Please visit our site for updates coming soon.

Simulation CME Courses

If you desire a new approach to CME, consider an immersive simulation experience at UNMC. Designed to prepare practicing anesthesiologists and anesthesia residents for upcoming MOCA requirements, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a fully immersive experience in our high definition simulation lab and operating suite. Gain familiarity with the simulator through a variety of scenarios in a safe, encouraging environment. Your simulation experience can be customized to your specific needs. Over 30 simulation scenarios have been developed and tested by our simulation faculty. The following is a small sample of the simulation courses we offer:

All are approved for Category 1 AMA CME credit. Contact Jennifer Adams, M.D. for further information and class schedules.

Moderate Sedation for the Non-Anesthesia Provider

Hundreds of thousands of procedures requiring moderate sedation are performed in the United States every year. Unsafe sedation practices may lead to patient discomfort or even potentially fatal adverse outcomes. This course is designed to provide non-anesthesiologists the tools and knowledge to safely administer moderate sedation. Tailored to physicians or nurses or a combination of both, information is provided with an innovative multimodal approach. Utilizing both interactive lecture and written materials, basic goals of sedation, pharmacology of common agents and management of common complications are discussed. Hands-on skills stations allow participants to gain necessary mechanical skills. Participants can then apply the knowledge and skills they've gained to several high definition simulation scenarios designed to bring it all together. This course can be customized to fit your moderate sedation needs by providing information for a specific provider mix with an emphasis on teamwork in the procedure suite.
