Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship

UNMC’s Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship shapes future cardiothoracic anesthesiologists to excel in clinical, educational and research spaces. UNMC is a large tertiary care center and level one trauma center, so fellows can expect an abundance of experience, opportunity and support. Our faculty is committed to providing the highest quality education by offering a wide range of clinical experience, including, but not limited to:

Premier Echocardiography Education

Our echocardiography education is second to none. Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellows immediately participate in echocardiography training tailored to their level of expertise and develop their proficiency throughout their fellowship and careers.

In August, fellows are excused from clinical duties for two weeks to participate in Echo Boot Camp, which includes hands-on learning, porcine heart dissection, frequent transthoracic echocardiography scanning, vascular and lung ultrasound, and lectures.

Fellows learn both transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography. Also, fellows easily achieve minimal numbers of exams required for certification in the National Board of Echocardiography’s Basic Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (PTEeXAM).
