The APRDP coordinates a short-term health professional exchange program between UNMC’s College of Medicine and the partnering institutions of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM) and Tongji University. Each year, medical students visit one another’s institution for 1-3 months of medical clinical training.
The first exchange began in 2005 with Chinese students spending three months of clinical rotations at UNMC. This makes history, as they become the first ones to do clinical rotations in the United States and then graduate from a major Chinese medical school under an eight-year American-style training curriculum. In 2008, the first UNMC students completed clinical training for one month at SJTUSM.
As of 2015, more than 100 Chinese and UNMC students have completed medical clinical training at UNMC, SJTUSM and Tongji University.
