How did you become interested in your profession?
I became interested in mental health after observing individuals with mental health diagnosis avoid services due to a lack of diversity in the field. I wanted to help individuals in my community, and others engage in treatment by increasing provider diversity within the mental health profession.
What have you enjoyed most about your internship program?
I most enjoy the ability to work with diverse populations which enables me to learn something new on a daily basis. I also enjoy learning about social justice and how to transform passion into action.
How has this experience helped prepare you for your career?
My experiences have helped prepare me for my career because I have learned how to build trusting relationships by listening to others and taking the time to learn their values. I am also better prepared to advocate for clients to ensure they receive quality services.
What are your career aspirations?
Ultimately, I would like to continue teaching at the collegiate level while running a private practice which caters to underserved populations.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy gardening, reading, and spending time with my family.
BHECN’s Ambassador Program creates a pipeline of Nebraska students interested in behavioral health beginning as early as their high school years. It follows students from high school and college, through professional school and on to careers in behavioral health.
