Behavioral Health Prescriber Summit 2018

Behavioral Health Providers Meet in Washington, D.C.

It was a collaboration of key minds in behavioral health workforce integration on September 19, 2018 as representatives from several organizations including Advancing Integrated Mental Health Solutions AIMS Center, American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), American Psychiatric Association (APA), American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), Behavioral Health Workforce Research Center (BHWRC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), National Council for Behavioral Health (NATCON), and The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) sat down in a meeting room in Washington, D.C. and discussed the behavioral health workforce with Dr. Howard Liu from the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN).
The discussion started with brief introductions and focused on exploring ways to collaborate across professions. The participants also discussed existing and/or future initiatives for possible collaborations and discussed designing an annual summit of Behavioral Health workforce leaders to develop solutions to the prescriber shortage.
This successful meeting resulted from a National Council on Behavioral Health Medical Director's Institute white paper on Psychiatry Workforce published in 2017 and updated 3.18. The group came away with a list of priority projects and a plan for future meetings.
