You Are Invited! To the Open House celebrating our 10th Anniversary and our new location!
What does everyone call you?
Typically everyone calls me BHECN (pronounced Beacon), occasionally they use my full name the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska.
Where did you work before you were here?
Before moving to my current location at 4470 Farnam Street, I was located in the Student Life Center on the third floor. It was really nice, but a little cramped. We definitely needed more room for all the new people joining the BHECN team.
Why did you need more space/people?
We were awarded new grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) they are the Mid-America Mental Health Technology & Transfer Center (MHTTC) grant and the Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) grant. In order to succeed with these new grants, we needed additional people to help with the increased workload.
How many years have you been doing what you do?
2019 is our 10th anniversary! We've been working with the legislature and community partners to build the behavioral health workforce in the state of Nebraska. Watch our video to find out more about what BHECN does.
What is your favorite part about your job?
It is hard to name just one part as a favorite. We're so passionate about developing the workforce for behavioral health that everything we do becomes infused with energy and passion. We research, plan, host events, conferences, work with legislators, community organizations, colleges, universities, students, associations, and many more entities and groups. We are constantly working on new projects and when the project has been completed, we're looking for the next one! We also love to travel all over Nebraska!
What makes you good at what you do?
I like to credit the entire team at BHECN and all our partners! The team makes me look good and we wouldn't get anywhere without our amazing partners.
What is one thing you want to make sure we know?
I'd like to personally invite the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine faculty, staff and students to join me on Tuesday, November 5th! We're celebrating my 10th anniversary and bringing in a nice array of tasty desserts. Stop by between 4:30-6:30 p.m. and remember life is short but sweet...eat dessert first!
