Support and Educational Programs for People with Cancer

Blood & Marrow Stem Cell Transplant Patient and Family Support Group
Support group for blood and marrow stem cell transplant or high dose treatment leukemia patients and caregivers. Meets weekly. This group is supported by The Nebraska Medical Center and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Call 402-559-4420 or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at 402-344-2242.

Cancer Survivorship Group
An educational/support group concerned with survivorship issues for people with a cancer history, their family, friends, or health care professionals. Education presented by health care/community speakers.

Meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month, 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. - light dinner/social time, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - speaker/presentation, held in the Private Dining Room, 3rd Floor of University Hospital, next to the cafeteria. Breast Cancer Educational Series
An educational group focused on the needs of those who have breast cancer or have been treated for breast cancer and concerned family and friends. Each group presented by a healthcare professional and information is provided on community resources.

This is a 6 month series beginning in May through October.

Meets the 4th Thursday of each month at The Cancer Center - West Omaha Location near Village Pointe 5:00-6:30pm.

Brain Tumor Support Group
An educational group focused on the needs of those who are affected by a brain tumor and their family members.

Meets bi-monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5-6:30pm.

Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancers (SPOHNC)
Omaha Chapter of national self-help support group for patients with oral and head and neck cancers. Spouses, family, & friends also welcome.

Look Good, Feel Better
Provides assistance for make-up and wigs/scarves

Held the 1st Monday of the months at 6:00 p.m. Pre-registration is needed and can be done by contacting the Volunteer Department at 402-559-4197.

Opportunities for People Experiencing Blood & Marrow Stem Cell Transplants (BMSCT)

Introduction to BMSCT -- Provides information on the transplant process for patients and their support system. Contact Jeanine at 402-559-7240 or Michelle at 402-559-6406.

Catheter and General Care Classes are taught by Sue Wardian, RN, MSN. Call 402-559-8019 to register.

BMSCT Luncheon is for BMSCT or high dose treatment leukemia patients, as well as caregivers/families. Contact 402-559-4420 for more information.
