User Accounts

All users with active UNMC NetIDs are populated into Canvas by every Thursday of each week.
If the user was created after the new users were imported into Canvas, it is possible that you may not find the user in Canvas.
Contact canvas@unmc.edu if the situation justifies a manual creation of the new user account prior to the weekly user import.

The anticipated date the entire UNMC community will be automatically populated into Canvas is January 2018.


 

Non-UNMC User Account Process:

There are two options to requesting UNMC LMS access for non-UNMC users.

OPTION ONE: Users from institutions which participant in InCommon (https://www.incommon.org/participants/).
The user will initially need to request a UNMC LMS account which uses InCommon. 

  1. Request an Incommon account
  2. Select institution from drop down list
  3. Click “Next”
  4. Enter your login credentials and Password
  5. Click "Sign in"
  6. Click "Request a new user account" and then "other"
  7. Next, click "I am a guest and need access..."
  8. Complete the Guest Account Request form.
    Account Details: Select "Blackboard" form the drop down list as the Primary purpose of account. (Select Blackboard even if you want a Canvas account. This will change in January 2018.)
Once the requests have been processed by UNMC (depending upon the volume of requests, usually within two to three business days), the sponsor will be notified when the access to the LMS is completed. Teachers should enroll the participant enrolled in the course and notify the user.
 
The user will authenticate to Canvas:
  1. Navigate to https://www.unmc.edu/canvas.html
  2. Click "Other UNMC Canvas Users Other"
  3. Login using your home institution's login credentials

OPTION TWO: User from institutions that do NOT a participant in InCommon
The user will need to complete the UNMC Guest Account Request Form:

  1. https://net.unmc.edu/netid/accountrequestpri.php?typ=other
    Account Details: Select "Blackboard" form the drop down list as the Primary purpose of account. (Select Blackboard even if you want a Canvas account. This will change in January 2018.)
    Sponsor Information: Sponsor: UNMC Instructor’s name
  2. The Sponsor is required to send email to systemaccess@unmc.edu
    Within the message describe the reason for access.
  3. Once the request has been processed (depending upon the volume of requests, usually within two to three business days) the user will receive two emails:

Email message #1 will include the username
Email message # 2 will include the password

4. The user will need to be enrolled in the course by the Instructor. The sponsor will be notified when the access to the LMS is completed.
