2024 Gender Care in the Heartland: Special Considerations in Gender-Diverse Patient Care
This conference aims to provide foundational and institutional knowledge on gender care practices, policies, and guidelines.
Conference Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Define the concepts of sex, gender, gender expression, and sexual orientation as they relate to health care settings.
- Identify current assessment tools and standards of care used to treat gender-diverse patients and clients, focusing on inclusivity and accuracy in clinical practice.
- Recall social, mental, and medical factors that impact the well-being of gender-diverse patients, including risks related to eating disorders, HIV, and suicide.
- Implement patient-centered strategies and best practices to provide respectful and effective care to gender-diverse patients, with a strong emphasis on maintaining confidentiality within team-based settings.
- Incorporate skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, community members, and health team members in a manner that is clear and understandable to ensure comprehension across diverse audiences.
General Information
Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. This activity has been approved for 6.0 credit hours of continuing education credit.
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, University of Nebraska Medical Center is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Cancel/Refund Policy
If you need to cancel your registration, please call 402-559-5929 no later than Nov. 1, 2024. There is a $25 processing fee for cancellations made by Nov. 1. Cancellations made after this date and registrants who fail to attend are responsible for the full registration fee.
