Tropical Medicine Clinical Laboratory Approaches I

Module Description

This module discusses the clinical laboratory resources a health care practitioner may encounter when working in the tropics. It also addresses common aspects of tropical medicine case diagnostics in the United States.

Module Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants should be better able to:

  1. Identify what clinical laboratory resources to expect in tropical areas and how to plan for it
  2. Identify what to expect at home in most settings when faced with a tropical medicine case and how to plan for it
  3. Integrate approaches to medical care delivery and health team functioning in the tropical environment to inform treatment decisions that respect patient and community values
