In 2009, an affiliation was established between the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center (CHMC), allowing pediatricians of all specialties to engage in research across both sites. In 2018, the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI) was established as a UNMC institute in order to further strengthen and support pediatric research at all levels.
The Pediatric Research Office (PRO) provides infrastructure support to research activities of Pediatric faculty at the UNMC and CHMC, giving pediatric patients the opportunity to participate and receive the latest in treatment options while adhering to the highest ethical standards in research. These projects reflect a diversity of work for the National Institutes of Health, Pharmaceutical sponsors, the Center for Disease Control and investigator initiated research. Other projects are ongoing in the areas of Child Health Policy, Hematology and Oncology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology and Metabolism. If you are interested in learning more about the research at CHRI, please refer to the Research by Faculty or Research by Division pages.
Both institutions provide designated research staff in the pharmacy and laboratory, who work directly with study staff to ensure high standards in patient safety and data integrity. The PRO is also supported by the CHRI, which funds the training of Research Nurse Coordinators, Study Coordinators and administrative staff at both sites.
