Non-faculty Instructor Orientation to Medical Student Teaching

This policy relates to LCME Element 9.1, which states: “… residents, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other non-faculty instructors in the medical education program who supervise or teach medical students are familiar with the learning objectives of the course or clerkship and are prepared for their roles in teaching and assessment.”

All non-faculty instructors including but not limited to residents/fellows and teaching assistants that are responsible for supervising, training, or evaluating COM students required portions of the curriculum are to be familiar with program objectives, block/clerkship, and event objectives, as well as required patient encounters/ skills, their teaching roles, and relevant methods of assessment.
