Speaker Biography:
Dr. Narayana is a professor of Oral Pathology at UNMC, in the Department of Oral Biology, College of Dentistry since 2003. In addition to her training in India, Nagamani is dually trained in Oral Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from UMKC, School of Dentistry, Kansas City and New York Hospital, Queens. She obtained her DMD from Temple University School of Dentistry. She is a diplomate of American Academy of Oral Medicine and American Academy of Oral Pathology. Presently, Nagamani teaches Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at the College; in addition she sees patients in the University Dental Associates and is the director of the oral biopsy service of the UNMC College of Dentistry.

Solving the Puzzle the Pathologist's Way
Course Description:
As a competent general practitioner it is key to know the common lesions occurring in different areas in the mouth and manage these lesions effectively. Sometimes oral lesions present with unusual clinical findings, and recur with complicated medical history and polypharmacy. This presentation will discuss current guidelines in management of oral lesions considering overall health of the patient.
This presentation will discuss:
1) Description of the lesions including clinical signs and symptoms
2) Radiographic features
3) Differential diagnosis including prevalence
4) Dental management considering the medical history
5) Additional Lab studies
6) Management and prognosis
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, the participant should be able to:
- State the common lesions occurring in the oral cavity.
- Discuss differential diagnoses for these lesions.
- Identify the need of biopsy and interpret the biopsy report to arrive at a definitive diagnosis.
- Describe management options and manage oral symptoms in patients on polypharmacy.
