Speaker: Dr. Narayana an associate professor in Oral pathology at UNMC, College of Dentistry from 2003. In addition to her training in India, Nagamani is dually trained in Oral Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology from UMKC, School of Dentistry, Kansas City and New York Hospital, Queens. She obtained her DMD from Temple University School of Dentistry. She is a diplomate of American Academy of Oral Medicine and American Academy of Oral Pathology. Presently Nagamani teaches Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at the school; in addition she sees patients in the University Dental Associates and is the director of the oral biopsy service of the UNMC College of Dentistry.

Potpourri of Oral Lesions with Special Emphasis on MUST KNOW Oral Lesions
Course Description:
As a general practitioner it is important to know the common lesions occurring in different areas in the mouth. It is important identify oral lesions when they present with unusual clinical findings, are recurrent, and with complicated medical history. This presentation will discuss current guidelines in management of these oral lesions considering “MUST” know lesions.
This presentation will discuss
- Description of the lesions including clinical signs and symptoms
- Radiographic features
- Differential diagnosis
- Dental management considering the medical history
- “MUST” know lesions – malignant including premalignant lesions, ulcers, soft tissue lesions and treatment
- How to deliver bad news to your patient
- Management and prognosis
Course Objectives:
After this lecture, the participants should be able to:
- State the “MUST” know lesions occurring in the oral cavity.
- Discuss differential diagnoses for these lesions.
- When and where to biopsy to arrive at a definitive diagnosis.
- Describe management options considering medical history.
- Able to deliver bad news to the patient.
