Speaker Biography:
Education: B.S. in Pharmacy, Creighton University, 1986; Pharm.D., Creighton University, 1988; Cardiovascular Research Fellowship, Creighton University Cardiac Center, 1989.
Current Positions: Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Medicine, Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy.
Practice Achievements: Dr. Malesker is a clinician, researcher, and educator. He has practiced as a clinical pharmacy coordinator and as a clinical pharmacy specialist with a practice interest in cardiology, pulmonary, and critical care. Dr. Malesker is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist, a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the American Society Health-Systems Pharmacists. He was awarded the 2009 Nebraska Pharmacy Association Health System Pharmacist of the Year. For many years, he has been enthusiastically involved with interdisciplinary continuing education programs and has given hundreds of invited presentations to physicians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and nurses.
Dr. Malesker has published over 300 abstracts, journal articles, and book chapters. He is on the editorial board for CHEST and serves as a reviewer for other scientific journals and professional meetings. As an educator, he is actively involved in the training of pharmacy students and residents, medical students and residents, and pulmonary critical care fellows. He was recently acknowledged as ‘Educator of the Year’ by Creighton pharmacy students. In addition, he is involved with numerous research projects and clinical trials.

Respiratory Pharmacology Update
Course Description:
Chronic respiratory disorders are common patient encounters for dental health professionals. This program was designed to provide updated pulmonary disease management information to dental healthcare providers. The goal is to review the pharmacology of prescription and nonprescription products used to manage asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, seasonal allergies, cough, and hereditary angioedema.
This course includes thorough and practical information dental healthcare professionals can use in their interactions and treatment of patients with chronic respiratory disease.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this lecture, participants will be able to:
- describe the pathophysiology and epidemiology of common respiratory disorders (Asthma, COPD,
seasonal allergies, cough, hereditary angioedema). - list the symptoms and clinical presentation of common respiratory disorders.
- recognize prescription and nonprescription products utilized for treatment of common respiratory
disorders. - discuss the pharmacology of respiratory disorder treatments.
