Things to Know Before 3D Printing Your Own Surgical Guide
Course description: Having used different 3D printers available on the market, Drs. Kim and Bennett will share their lessons to help clinician gain proficiency in 3D printing. We will review most commonly available 3D printers and their applications in dentistry. A specific emphasis will be made on the overall process of producing an accurate surgical guide in your office. There will be demonstrations on designing surgical guides using 3Shape Implant Studio. Additionally, Dr. Kim will discuss the mistakes and pitfalls in maintaining a 3D printer, Formlabs Form 2. This course is designed for clinicians with little to no prior experience in 3D printing.
Course objectives: After this lecture, the participant should be able to:
- understand the overall workflow of 3D printing in-office surgical guides.
- recognize the expanding possibilities for Additive Manufacturing in dentistry.
- review printable materials and their benefits and limitations.
- recognize how 3D printing can be an adjunct as well as replacement technology.
- review the different available methods of AM/3D printing and where you can find them in the dental world.
- review lessons learned from adopting low cost 3D printers for dental use.
