To present patients with the best available clinical evidence and discuss risks and benefits of all reasonable treatment options for shared decision making.

Professional Interests:

Dr. Ghate is an active clinician–scientist. She has received the University of Nebraska Physician-Scientist award, the Diversity Award and the Mentorship for Advancement of Physician Scientists Award from the American Glaucoma Society.

She has received funding as primary investigator from the American Glaucoma Society, the Nebraska Research Initiative, System Science Collaboration and the Great Plains IDeA CTR Scholar Award, among others, and as co-investigator from the National Eye Institute, the IDeA CTR superstar program, the IDeA CTR pilot grant program and the Bright Focus foundation.

Her research interests include: developing ocular biomarkers for intracranial pressure, developing a new device for measurement of episcleral venous pressure, and the study of activities of daily living in glaucoma particularly driving in collaboration with the Mind and Brain Health Labs in collaboration with Drs. Rizzo, Anderson and Kedar.

Dr. Ghate collaborates with Dr. Siwei Zhao on new devices for intraocular drug delivery and their team won the IDeA superstar award 2019. She also collaborates with Dr. Matthew Van Hook as co-investigator on the physiology of glaucoma and Drs. Toris, Gulati and Fan on the study of aqueous humor dynamics.

Dr. Ghate and Dr. Kedar are the co-inventors of the Virtual Reality Pupil Simulator which has been used in medical student and resident education.
