The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Nebraska is a tertiary level referral center for Nebraska and several surrounding states.
A substantial number of the cases seen by our glaucoma specialists are complex referral cases. The service uses state-of-the-art glaucoma diagnostic, laser and surgical equipment for the management of these cases. Drs. Vikas Gulati, Deepta Ghate and Shane Havens are extensively involved in the teaching of medical students, residents, fellows and allied health professionals.
Dr. Gulati is a board certified, fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. Dr Gulati did his residency at the University of Nebraska and glaucoma fellowships at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School and at University of Nebraska with Dr. Carl Camras.
Dr. Gulati specializes in the management of all forms of glaucoma, adult and pediatric. Dr. Gulati has authored over 50 abstracts and peer-reviewed publications addressing ways to diagnose and treat glaucoma. He is the recipient of the American Glaucoma Society’s Clinician Scientist Award and MAPS Award for the year 2010.
Dr. Gulati’s current research with Dr. Carol Toris studies the flow of fluid through the eye and how it is altered by different types of diseases and treatments. He is also working to develop newer glaucoma surgical procedures and drainage devices.
The glaucoma service at UNMC is dedicated to providing superb care to our patients with the latest technology, while continuing to educate future ophthalmologists.
